About PTSD Resolution

PTSD Resolution is a charity (No. 1133188) that helps Veterans, Reservists and Families who are struggling to reintegrate into a normal work & family life because of military trauma suffered during service in the armed forces.  Their Mission is to ensure effective therapy for military PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Post Traumatic Symptoms and Secondary Traumatic Stress).

The programme is community-based, with treatment and support provided locally. Through a nationwide network of 200 accredited therapists, PTSD Resolution provides treatment to enable Veterans and Reservists to resolve the mental health problems associated with military trauma that obstruct a normal range of family and work relationships

PTSD Resolution has no salaried staff or assets at the charity:

Donations received are used to fund the cost of treatment by local therapists. They receive no Government funding. Donate here.

  • Trauma causes flashbacks, nightmares, anger and depression - often leading to violence, alcohol and substance abuse, job loss, family breakdown and even suicide.
  • Resolution therapy is brief, with an average of just five one-hour sessions, conducted on an out-patient basis, to support family and work routines.
  • The programme is complementary to the work of other services' charities, in that it resolves the mental health issues that are barriers to successful reintegration and settlement.

PTSD Resolution Statement of Purpose

PTSD Resolution helps ex-service men and women who have mental health problems following service in the UK armed forces. PTSD Resolution is an independent charity that aims to work with the people other services do not reach or have not been able to help. They work in prisons, for example, and are generally able to work with traumatised people who have alcohol and drug problems provided they are able to engage in therapy.

For those clients who engage with the therapeutic process and meet their appointments the outcomes from PTSD Resolution are very good, even when the trauma is long-standing and severe.
However, PTSD Resolution is not a mental health crisis service. If you are in danger or have severe mental health problems please ring your GP; if there is a strong element of risk then contact the mental health crisis team, or if absolutely necessary the emergency services.

PTSD Resolution - Mission

Their Mission is to ensure effective therapy for military PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Post Traumatic Symptoms and Secondary Traumatic Stress).

Better access and availability of treatment for all veterans of the UK armed services, TA, reservists and their dependents.

The PTSD Resolution programme involves a series of one-hour therapy sessions on a one-to-one, out-patient basis, to relieve veterans of disabling symptoms. A single course of treatment is usually all that's required, delivered through a national network of therapists, trained in HGT (Human Givens Therapy) - a successful therapy for dealing with mental distress.

PTSD Resolution treatment meets the special needs of veterans and reservists. It is effective without the therapist or anyone else ever knowing about the events that caused the trauma. This ensures confidentiality.

It protects the patient from further distress, and therapists from hearing about often extremely disturbing incidents. These are important safeguards.

They are also doing new research and raising awareness of the causes and treatment of post traumatic stress. PTSD is little understood by veterans and reservists - or their families, friends or employers, the people who are often very much affected by the destructive behaviour associated with the condition.

A key area of research will be the plight of veterans in the prison and probation system – who number some 20,000 today.

Why PTSD is a problem

  • Anger and depression. Nightmares and substance abuse. Family breakdown and even suicide.
  • The symptoms of military PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) wreck lives.
  • One in four homeless people is a former member of the armed services. Over 20,000 veterans are in jail or on probation.
  • So why isn't treatment available? It is, but it's often inappropriate. There are long waiting lists. Therapy can extend over months or even years.
  • Treatment is often unsuitable because veterans, reservists and dependants, are expected to describe harrowing events in detail, in group therapy sessions with civilians.
  • PTSD Resolution's programme is different. It is exclusively for veterans and involves an average of just four one-hour sessions.
  • Treatment is on a one-to-one, out-patient basis with a qualified therapist. It is proven to work, backed by a successful three-year pilot project.
  • The programme supports other charitable and Government initiatives because it deals with the chronic, underlying problems of PTSD - the trauma that causes the flashbacks and nightmares.
  • Veterans are then able to move on to treatment for other problems, such as addiction and homelessness.

" I would encourage anyone having difficulties and not coping well to seek her out.  Mary is very supportive and understanding and has worked with ex-service personnel before.  She really gets us. "
